Think You Understand Star Wars? Discover the Minerals That Truly Power a Galaxy Far Far Away

Six of the most important minerals in the Star Wars Universe

When “Star Wars: A New Hope” premiered in 1977, it took the world by storm. George Lukas’s universe of rebellion, redemption, and great space battles was something that moviegoers had never experienced before.

The larger-than-life characters and their adventures turned millions into fans of a galaxy far away. As such, the lore has continued to grow over the decades with novels, comics, video games, and of course, TV series, it has transformed Star Wars into a galaxy filled with unique creatures and infinite stories.

Still, the things that play the most important role in many of these stories and that a lot of fans have come to love are the minerals. From the mysterious Kyber crystals to the impenetrable Beskar steel, the minerals of the Star Wars galaxy are as fascinating as they are important. Here are some of the most important substance in Star Wars.

Kyber Crystal

The Kyber Crystal is one of the most well-known minerals in the Star Wars universe. These crystals come in various colors, ranging from blue to green to red. They’re used to power the iconic Jedi and Sith lightsabers. In addition to their use in lightsabers, Kyber crystals were also the component that turned the Death Star into a planet killer.

But Kyber crystals are more than just power sources. To the Jedi and Sith, they are a deeply spiritual and significant crystal. They believe that the crystal is alive and imbued with the Force. The process of finding, tuning, and bonding with a Kyber crystal is a rite of passage for all Jedi, and the crystal itself is said to reflect the personality of its wielder through the color of the energy blade

Beskar Steel

Beskar steel is another important mineral in the Star Wars universe. This incredibly durable and valuable metal is found only on one planet, Mandalore. The Mandalorian people use it to create their iconic armor. Beskar is so strong that it can withstand even lightsaber strikes, making it an essential material for Mandalorian warriors.

like the Jedi and Kyber crystal, Beskar steel is not just for armor For the Mandalorians; it’s also a symbol of their culture and heritage. Mandalorians believe that their armor is an extension of themselves, and the Beskar used to create it is a reflection of their strength and honor. In addition to armor, Beskar is used to create a variety of weapons and tools, including the iconic Mandalorian blasters.

Kyber crystal and Beskar steel are the most well-known minerals in Star Wars. Aside from these, the Star Wars universe features several other minerals that have become an important part of the Star Wars universe as well.

Tibanna Gas

Tibanna gas is a valuable resource used in the production of blasters and other energy weapons. It’s found in gas clouds in the atmosphere of the planet Bespin and is harvested by the Ugnaughts. The gas is stored in canisters and shipped throughout the galaxy for use in various weapons systems.

Lommite

Lommite is a raw material in the Star Wars universe. It’s a primary component used in the manufacture of transparisteel, which is a transparent metal used in starship viewports and building windows in the Star Wars galaxy. In the Expanded Universe (now called “Legends” after Disney’s acquisition of the franchise), lommite was mined on various planets, including Plooriod IV, Ord Cestus, and the remote world of Kessel.

Durasteel
