As a Star Wars Fan, I Appreciate The Acolyte

If You Hate ‘The Acolyte,’ Why Are You Still Watching? A True Fan’s Perspective

First, let me just say that if this opinion triggers anyone to the point where they go out of there way to leave nasty comments, and down-vote every single video on my YouTube channel, then they’re probably the ones I’m talking about.

That being said, I appreciate The Acolyte for what it is: an added extension to the Star Wars saga. Sure, the show has its flaws, but they don’t outweigh my appreciation to the point where I’m foaming at the mouth with every perceived inconsistency or hint of wokeness in the show. If that were the case, I would’ve stopped watching at episode two. But here we are, several episodes in.

So at what point do these rabid complainers stop watching? Some will quickly use the analogy about how you can’t look away from a car wreck. If you truly understand what you don’t like, then looking away is easy. No one spends such unhealthy amounts of time obsessing over something they hate.

A lot of these so-called Star Wars fans are like that guy who goes to a restaurant, eats an entire plate of food, and then complains about how horrible it was, only to be back at the same restaurant next week, eating the same plate of food. They can’t be this masochistic, punishing themselves like this every week by watching the show. This type of behavior is absurd. So, I’m pretty sure there’s something else at play here.

The only thing these willfully obtuse fans want to see are men playing with their little light sticks, going zoom-zoom-zoom. Many of you might say I’m not a true Star Wars fan because I should hate it like everyone else. I’m not everyone else. I actually understand what Star Wars is—it’s fiction.

Look, we all have a right not to like something. We all have the right to share our opinions and have healthy discussions. But let me ask you this, do you hate the Acolyte because it’s a trend to hate Disney’s Star-Wars or because it doesn’t look like the other things in the box you placed Star-Wars in?

It’s ironic how they miss the entire message in Star Wars, where millions of different species, religions, and sociopolitical beliefs exist and still somehow manage to form a galactic republic.

To be clear, the Acolyte isn’t perfect. It has its moments. The one main gripe I have with the show is the dialogue, but it’s Star Wars; dialogue was never its thing. (Andor and Rogue One excluded.) But as a fan of the universe, I’m here for the journey.

With a galaxy of millions of species and a hundred thousand years of history, I’m here to see new stories unfold, to explore different corners of the galaxy, and to experience the creativity that comes from expanding one of my favorite sagas.

So, to all the complainers out there, maybe it’s time to ask yourselves why you keep coming back for more. If it’s really that bad, why subject yourself to it week after week? Or perhaps, deep down, you do find some enjoyment in it but are afraid to admit it. Either way, May the Force be with you, always.
