Have you ever watched a movie trailer and thought, “Wait a second, I’ve seen this before”? That’s exactly the vibe the Time Cut trailer gives off. And you know what? That’s totally fine! Halloween is just around the corner, and who doesn’t want more slasher thrills with a sci-fi twist?
Time Cut is an upcoming American science fiction slasher, directed by Hannah MacPherson, who co-wrote it with Michael Kennedy. It stars Madison Bailey as Lucy, a high school senior who finds a time machine and travels back to 2003—the year her sister was brutally murdered by a serial killer. Now she’s stuck in a past where she barely blends in, and with the stakes higher than ever, Lucy has to solve the mystery, save her sister, and avoid altering the future beyond repair. You can catch it streaming on Netflix on October 30, 2024.
But here’s the thing: Time Cut is getting some major comparisons to Totally Killer, a 2023 film about a girl who travels back in time to team up with her mom to stop a serial killer. Yeah, they do sound similar, right? But here’s the twist—Time Cut actually wrapped production way back in August 2021, nearly a year before Totally Killer was even filmed. So, the similarities? Pure coincidence.
Honestly, though, who cares? It’s Halloween season, and that means one thing: slasher films galore! Sure, Totally Killer might have hit screens first, but that doesn’t mean Time Cut won’t deliver its own dose of time-traveling, blood-spattered thrills.
I’m definitely giving Time Cut a watch. If Totally Killer was fun, then this one could be a killer Halloween treat too. Let’s see if Time Cut can carve out its own place in the sci-fi slasher genre.
